Cheetahs AAU – Clark U Tourney

Sports photography can always be challenging – there’s always something that can cause you to not have an ideal lighting situation. Outdoor sports are usually successful in that you mostly have good light – mostly because, if it’s getting dark, there’s not much you can do to make it more LIGHT OUT! Also, on extremely sunny days, there isn’t much you can do to make the sun be less bright – you can adjust your f/stop and shutter speed, etc. but at the end of the day a very bright and sunny day can cause some nasty shadows.

Speaking of ideal lighting situations, I recently shot my daughter’s AAU team at Clark University in Worcester, MA. The gym wasn’t very well lit, but I got lucky in that the sunlight from the windows made up for it. The first game was right next to the main windows of the gym so the lighting was very good – the second game was on the court farthest from the light and… without using my flash, the pictures weren’t so good. Here’s a slideshow of the shots. The girls went 3-1 this weekend, just in case you were wondering :) .
